The historic courthouse in Columbus was finished in 1857 and is one of the oldest still in use buildings in North Carolina. The brick columned Board of Education building was one of our first schools. Both properties have park areas that are host to town festivals throughout the year. The one-block downtown features local businesses, an antique shop and several restaurants. They are also home to the House of flags museum.

Go to Winding Creek Brewing for local brews in their taproom and enjoy a variety of artists in the Music Hall. Stop by the First Peak Visitor Center at 20 East Mills Street for plenty of local information.

Enjoy two parks in the middle of tiny Columbus! Stearns Park with its lovely gazebo hosts many events. It’s a great place to picnic while enjoying the mountain views. Behind the courthouse is Veterans Park with a fountain and memorial. Columbus Farmers’ Market is open on Saturday mornings 8 AM-12 Noon year-round:

Scenic drives, whether you drive along the base of Oak Mountain, or take the winding road 1,000 + feet to the top for spectacular views, including a drive-by waterfall. Highway I-26 passes thru for easy excess to the beach, which is only 3.5 hours east. Learn more.
